Shankill Shared Women's Centre Childcare
The Shankill Shared Women’s Centre provides high-quality childcare for children across the three months to pre-nursery age to support working parents/mums who engage with our programmes.
Funded by The Pathway Fund & Department for Communities
Our childcare unit
We provide a safe and nurturing environment where children can learn and develop through play. We have built strong relationships with our parents and families, valuing parents as their child’s first and most important educators.
We promote equal opportunities and ensure that all children are encouraged to participate and continuously strive to improve our childcare into the best we can.

Our childcare facility uses the High Scope programme, which is an approach based on the idea that children learn best from activities that they plan and carry out themselves.
The activities are initiated by the children and organised by the adults and uses the active learning process to build on children’s strengths, interests, and abilities to develop their self-esteem and skills.
Our childcare unit
In our childcare setting, we use the ‘Media Initiative for Respecting Difference’ programme in the form of puppets and story books to interact with the children, and promote positive attitudes to physical, social, and cultural differences. Research has found evidence that this programme is effective in improving outcomes in young children in relation to their social and emotional development and awareness of attitudes towards cultural differences.
The childcare programme is organised by a Childcare Manager, a Childcare Deputy Manager and a team of qualified staff who run the unit on a day-to-day basis.
